Glenn’s father was a member of the Silent Generation who was born during World War II. He became a mechanic and had two dreams for his only son.

The first was for him to become an Eagle Scout. Glenn did that and still considers it one of the greatest accomplishments of his life.

His second dream was for Glenn to be the first person in the family to go to college, because the Silent Generation held a widespread cultural belief that a traditional four-year degree was a guaranteed path to automatic success and financial stability.

Glenn did that too, but it turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments of his life.

He got a degree in Management from a major state university, and it helped him get a good job with a good company after graduation.

But he soon discovered that most of what he studied in college was useless in the real world. While the degree helped him get the job, it did almost nothing to help him do the job.

This is part of what sociologists today call “The College Delusion”.

None of those professors taught how to find people to hire, motivate people, manage problem employees, handle insubordination, or all the other things managers have to deal with.

So Glenn read every management book and attended every management seminar he could to learn how to manage people in the real world, and realized two things:

1. Most people get promoted into management with little or no training.

2. While most management books contain useful information, they’re packed with lots of “filler”.

Glenn thought that if he could take only the stuff that he knew works in the real world and make it into a seminar, maybe people would pay to attend.

This idea was first tested at a seminar at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, MI and it sold out immediately.

That same seminar has now been held at over 440 colleges, universities, and chambers of commerce from California to New York and continues to sell out 30 years later.

It has been ranked by attendees nationwide as similar to or higher than leadership training from Disney, Hilton, McDonald’s, John C. Maxwell, the U.S. Army and Navy, Dave Ramsey, and Tony Robbins.

Glenn has also written over 1,100 published articles on management, and is the author of six books which have been published in seven languages.

To be clear, Glenn is not against college. But he is against over-promising and under-delivering what the typical college degree will do for young people, while crippling them with so much student debt that the average American can’t pay it off until age 45. This is part of what sociologists call “The College Delusion”.
